US rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison following a final ruling by the Constanța Court of Appeal.
The conviction stems from an incident in July 2024, when the artist was filmed smoking cannabis on stage during his performance at the Beach, Please! Festival.
According to , the court’s decision on Thursday, 18 December 2025, overturned a previous lighter sentence.
A lower court had initially ordered Khalifa—real name Cameron Jibril Thomaz to pay a fine of 3,600 Romanian lei (approximately R14,300).
However, prosecutors successfully argued for a custodial sentence, citing the “social danger” of his actions being witnessed by a young audience.
Authorities confirmed the 38-year-old was in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis.
While Romania maintains some of the strictest drug laws in Europe, Khalifa’s team is reportedly continuing to appeal the sentence, though Romanian officials have currently labelled the decision as “final and enforceable.”
As the rapper is currently in the United States, it remains uncertain whether Romanian authorities will formally pursue an international arrest warrant or extradition to enforce the jail time.
