‘White Lives Matter’: Akon’s comments about SA resurface [video]

US Senegalese singer Akon’s old comments about South Africa have resurfaced after he teased a possible tour stop in the country.

The popular entertainer has shared his comments about what he believes is “reverse racism” in the country.

AKON’S COMMENTS ABOUT SOUTH AFRICA RESURFACE

On the X platform, South Africans have revisited comments made by Akon about the country.

Speaking in an interview on Vlad TV back in 2022, the Senagalese American weighed in on South Africa’s race relations, in response to a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt worn by fellow muso Kanye West.

In it, he discussed a slew of misconceptions about Africa. One of them was the state of affairs in South Africa.

When confronted with the concept that “white people live in the projects” in SA, Akon responded: “This is a true story. Since the power has been taken over, the government is 90% black running it.

“And the white folk are screaming about equality, saying, ‘It’s not fair’. So exactly what is happening in America is happening in South Africa

Akon then quipped, whilst laughing: “White Lives Matter – in South Africa 100%. Kanye got the right shirt in the wrong country.”

Akon then added that whilst he had written a song about Nelson Mandela, he “never got to meet him”

He added: “I would have loved to”.

NEXT STOP MZANSI?

Meanwhile, Akon has asked his fans to suggest new locations to bring his tour.

In the comments section, the hitmaker received a flurry of comments from South Africans begging him not to stop over in the country.
