Where does the Springboks’ win over Wales rank all-time?

The Springboks finished their 2025 season with a 73-0 demolition of Wales at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on Saturday.

With their pack of forwards once again laying a superb foundation, the Springboks simply had too much firepower for the Welsh, and scored 11 tries in the Test for their biggest victory of 2025.

However, it wasn’t the Springboks’ biggest all-time win. In fact it didn’t even make the Top 5 points margin wins list. And it wasn’t the biggest hiding ever dished out to Wales.

Biggest ever win

The Springboks’ biggest ever win – in terms of points margin – remains their 134-3 walloping of Uruguay in June 2005 at the Basil Kenyon Stadium in East London.

Their biggest ever win away from home is the 87-0 victory over neighbours Namibia at the North Harbour Stadium in New Zealand during the 2011 Rugby World Cup.

Saturday’s win over Wales, while the biggest against the Welsh in Wales, wasn’t the biggest of all time.

That remains the 96-13 drubbing dished out at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria in June 1998.

Of South Africa’s 10 biggest wins, six have come at home, with Newlands in Cape Town the only venue to feature twice.
