The former House of Zwide star reflects on love on and off screen

South African actress Shalate Sekhabi has expressed gratitude that what once existed only in a television script is becoming a reality in her own life.
The actress, who found love on the set of House of Zwide, shared that her onscreen romance with co-star Wanda Zuma, affectionately known as Nkosi, has blossomed into a real-life love story.
Shalate recently shared a series of heartfelt images from her acting wedding reception alongside her fiancé, as well as traditional wedding scenes from House of Zwide, sparking speculation that the couple may soon be tying the knot.
While it is rare for onscreen lovers to become real-life partners, Shalate and Wanda have become one of Mzansi’s most admired celebrity couples.
The former co-stars announced their engagement last year, sharing their joy and excitement.
The beloved actress has since exited the e.tv telenovela, which captured the hearts of South Africans in 2025. Shalate joined House of Zwide in 2021 during its debut season and portrayed the character Shoki for four years.
Viewers watched Shoki evolve through love, heartbreak and marriage, cementing her place as one of the show’s most cherished characters.
