What Pitso said about Bafana Bafana’s accomplished dream

Former Bafana Bafana coach Pitso Mosimane joined the wave of celebration after Bafana Bafana’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Fifteen years after last appearing on the global stage, and 23 years since earning qualification through competition, Mzansi’s pride is back among the world’s elite.

Thalente Mbatha’s early thunderbolt set the tone before Oswin Appollis and Evidence Makgopa sealed a 3-0 victory over Rwanda’s Wasps, confirming South Africa as Group C winners with 18 points.

Mosimane, ever the student of the game, believes the country’s progress at club level has directly strengthened the national side.

“Thank you, coach Hugo [Broos] , Helman [Mkhalele], the technical team and our players. They really gave a gallant fight throughout the qualifiers,” Mosimane said on his X account.

“Participation of our local teams in the semi-finals of CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup has added value to our national teams,” the former national side mentor added.

Coming up next for Mzansi is AFCON 2025 in Morocco during December. South Africa plays their opening match against Angola on December 22, 2025.

On Boxing Day, SA face Egypt at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir before the final group B fixture against neighbours Zimbabwe at the Grand Stade de Marrakech on 29 December 2025.
