The Western Cape has once again cemented its place among the world’s leading wine destinations, with four local estates earning coveted spots on the extended World’s 50 Best Vineyards list for 2025.
The recognised estates include Tokara Wine and Olive Estate and Delaire Graff Estate in Stellenbosch, La Motte Wine Estate in the Franschhoek Valley, and Hamilton Russell Vineyards in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley near Hermanus.
World’s top vineyard experiences
The awards celebrate the world’s top vineyard experiences, evaluating wineries not only for the quality of their wines but also for their architecture, sustainability practices, hospitality, and overall visitor experience.
Western Cape MEC for Agriculture, Economic Development and Tourism, Dr Ivan Meyer, said the recognition reinforces the province’s global standing as a premier wine tourism destination.
“These accolades highlight the Western Cape’s commitment to excellence in both wine production and visitor experience,” Meyer said.
“Our estates continue to blend innovation, sustainability, and world-class hospitality to attract wine lovers from across the globe.”
Inclusive tourism
The Western Cape wine industry contributes significantly to the regional economy and employment, with its vineyards also serving as cultural and environmental custodians.
Many of the recognised estates integrate local sourcing, conservation, and community upliftment into their operations – strengthening the province’s reputation for responsible and inclusive tourism.
The provincial government said it was proud of the recognition achieved by these estates, noting that such accolades help to showcase the diversity and depth of South Africa’s wine regions to an international audience.
“Each award is a testament to the skill and passion of our winemakers and the enduring appeal of the Western Cape’s landscapes and culture,” Meyer added.
With its world-renowned estates, innovative winemaking, and growing emphasis on sustainability, the Western Cape continues to stand tall among the top global destinations for wine tourism.
