Five boys from Westbury in Johannesburg are fighting for their lives in hospital following a fatal shooting on Tuesday, 21 October 2025,  which left two teenage boys dead.

Kaya News reports that the attack was allegedly carried out by a group of teenagers who are believed to be part of a gang.

The four suspects opened fire on the victims while they were sitting in a yard.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS) in Gauteng, 20 rounds of ammunition were fired during the incident.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili confirmed that the victims, aged between 14 and 19 years, were rushed to hospital, where two of them were declared dead on arrival.

“Preliminary reports suggest that the shooting was gang related,” Muridili said in a statement.

Police have launched a manhunt for the four suspects.

Meanwhile, authorities are urging parents to keep their children away from crime.

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola is set to visit the Westbury police station this morning , 22 October, following the incident.
