WEATHER: Flooding, hail and strong winds expected in several provinces

If you’re in KwaZulu-Natal, the Free State or the North West, you can expect plenty of rain on Thursday, 18 December.

KWAZULU-NATAL

The South African Weather Service has issued an Orange Level 5 warning for severe thunderstorms in the province. These are likely to be accompanied by heavy downpours that may lead to flooding of susceptible roads and settlements, as well as strong, damaging winds, hail and excessive lightning. The western and northern parts of KwaZulu-Natal are expected to be most affected.

DURBAN

In KZN’s largest city, conditions will be cloudy with widespread showers and thundershowers. Temperatures will range between 19°C and 22°C.

FREE STATE

A Level 2 weather warning has been issued for severe thunderstorms in the extreme eastern parts of the Free State. Heavy downpours, damaging winds, excessive lightning and hail are expected, which may result in localised flooding and damage to infrastructure and settlements.

BLOEMFONTEIN

In Bloemfontein, temperatures will reach a high of 30°C, despite partly cloudy conditions.

NORTH WEST PROVINCE

In the North West Province, it will be partly cloudy and warm, with isolated to scattered showers and thundershowers. Cloudy conditions are expected in the eastern parts.

MAHIKENG

In the provincial capital, it will be partly cloudy with scattered showers and thundershowers. Temperatures will range between 16°C and 28°C.
