Bafana Bafana supporters have reacted to the draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will see them face Mexico in the opening match. This match is a repeat of the opening match from the 2010 FIFA World Cup, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
South Africa is placed in Group A, along with South Korea and a European play-off winner. The European team that Bafana Bafana will face will be one of the following: Denmark, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, or the Republic of Ireland.
Despite the challenging draw, Bafana Bafana supporters are optimistic that their team will advance from the group stage.
In previous tournaments, South Africa has always been eliminated in the group stages; however, one could argue that this is the easiest group they have encountered.
Was the draw good for Bafana? Can they make it out of their World Cup group?
Bafana might end up needing just a win and a draw to advance to the last 32. Mexico and South Korea are teams capable of beating Hugo Broos’ men and if South Africa are to advance, they need to start playing North American and Asian teams in friendlies leading up to the World Cup.
Bafana will play one of the European teams in the World Cup, but luckily for them, the draw saw them escape the likes of Italy.
Many South African fans are confident that their team will reach the next round having avoided the likes of Brazil, Spain, France and Argentina.
