The City of Tshwane has announced that Rand Water will replace the water meter at the Saulsville Substation on Monday, 13 October, as part of essential maintenance work. The project, scheduled to run from 9:00 to 15:00, will primarily affect the Saulsville area; however, nearby communities may also experience temporary water interruptions.
“Rand Water has notified the City of Tshwane’s Water and Sanitation Business Unit about plans to replace the Saulsville Substation water meter,” the municipality said.
The city added that it appreciates residents’ understanding as the upgrade aims to improve water system efficiency and long-term reliability.
Water meter possible impact and the city’s apology
While the city expects the work to mainly affect Saulsville, it cautioned that “the upgrade may affect other areas not mentioned,” and apologised in advance should that occur.
The City also reminded residents that, under municipal regulations, it “will not accept any responsibility for any damage to household appliances as a result of a planned or unplanned service interruption.”
Officials urged residents to plan ahead by storing enough water for basic needs during the six-hour period. Essential services such as clinics, schools, and businesses that rely heavily on water are advised to take extra precautions.
Appeal for water conservation
In light of the planned maintenance, Tshwane has called on residents to use water sparingly throughout the day.
“We appeal to all residents to use water sparingly during this period,” the municipality stated.
Residents are encouraged to adopt simple conservation practices, such as avoiding excessive watering of gardens, car washing, and filling swimming pools.
Other water-saving measures include flushing toilets only when necessary, turning off running taps while brushing teeth, and reducing overall daily water use. These efforts, the city said, will help sustain supply levels during and after the maintenance work.
