North West businessman Brown Mogotsi has spoken publicly about the alleged attempt on his life in Vosloorus, Gauteng.
Earlier this month, he survived what he describes as an assassination attempt in Ekurhuleni, where attackers allegedly fired at his car.
Testimony Before the Madlanga Commission
Mogotsi is appearing before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria, where evidence leader Matthew Chaskalson is cross-examining him.
He told the commission that people believed he exaggerated his movements during the incident, but he insists he acted out of fear.
“People thought I’m pretending to be a superman, saying I moved around inside the car while bullets were flying. But by luck, I don’t know what happened. Those people had followed me for a long time. When they saw my car, they fired one shot. I managed to drive off while they were turning. That’s when I ran for my life,” he said.
Mogotsi Attack Raises Questions
Gunmen allegedly opened fire on Mogotsi’s red Chevrolet in Vosloorus on Monday 2 November.
South Africans have since questioned the incident on social media, with some calling it a “poorly staged attack”.
Police found more than eight bullet holes in the vehicle before the attackers fled. Mogotsi escaped without injury.
Police later recovered the car, which had visible bullet holes across its body.
Footage from the scene shows shattered glass on the seats, worn tyres, and a white box on the passenger seat. The contents of the box remain unknown.
Mogotsi Funds Own Security
Mogotsi told the commission he is covering his own legal expenses and paying for his own security.
He said the alleged incident in Vosloorus left him deeply unsettled, adding that he believed he was being followed before he could deliver his statement.
