WATCH | King Charles’s Christmas message

King Charles III has recorded his fourth Christmas message since becoming head of state for the United Kingdom.

The King looks to be in good spirits and in good health, especially since his cancer diagnosis and treatment.

According to Mail Online, the broadcast was filmed earlier this month after the Monarch had been given the good news by his doctors that his cancer treatment would be hugely scaled back in the new year.

The King’s message was recorded at Westminster Abbey

“We’re delighted to share the news that The King’s Christmas message has been filmed here in the Lady Chapel at Westminster Abbey,” wrote Westminster Abbey on Instagram.

“Built by Henry VII and consecrated in 1516, the Lady Chapel is the burial place of fifteen kings and queens, including Elizabeth I and Mary Queen of Scots,” the message continued.

“The Abbey continues to be a major site of pilgrimage, a key theme of The King’s message this year. Pilgrims visit every year to remember the life and legacy of Edward the Confessor, whose Shrine lies at the heart of the Abbey.”

According to the BBC, the King is expected to talk about the “pilgrimage” of life, and the lessons it can teach about the issues of the day.

Westminster Abbey continues to be a major church of pilgrimage, a key theme of His Majesty’s message this year, according to the Mail Online.

Pilgrims particularly visit it to remember the life and legacy of Edward the Confessor, whose Shrine lies at the heart of the Abbey.

King Charles’s mother, Queen Elizabeth, was the monarch for over 70 years until her death on 8 September 2022, at the age of 96.

The Queen’s first Christmas Broadcast on television was in 1957, a welcome difference from previous years’ radio broadcasts of the message.
