South Africans have been left fuming over a “butchered” performance of the national anthem as sung by an opera singer at the Springboks match against Italy over the weekend.
The rendition has even been compared to the infamous performance by singer Ras Dumisani back in 2009.
The Boke beat Azzurri 32-14.

For the first time this year, a performer has caught heat for “butchering” the South African national anthem.
The singer – an Italian opera singer – was accused of butchering the lyrics and singing out of sync with the music.

The most infamous one on the list is Ras Dumisani, who botched the national anthem at a Springboks vs France test match in 2009.

Last year, Pretoria performer Hercules Smith irked rugby fans with his performance of the anthem in Twickenham for SA’s match against Wales.
A few months later, another opera singer, Innocent Masuku, was accused of butchering the performance, again at Twickenham.
