Gauteng is expected to experience a warm day as humid conditions combine with increasing cloud cover across the province. Johannesburg is expected to reach a high of 25°C, while the surrounding areas are also likely to experience similar temperatures.
According to forecasts, moisture moving inland continues to fuel unstable atmospheric conditions, such as warm conditions.
“We are looking at a warm day, especially over Johannesburg, with a high of 25 degrees,” said Mpho Rasimphi, a forecaster.
High chance of showers and thunderstorms in Gauteng
Weather models indicate a 60% to 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms over Gauteng, particularly from the afternoon into the evening. These storms may intensify as rainfall spreads from the central parts of the country.
Rasimphi warned that persistent rainfall could increase risks in low-lying areas.
“Significant impact is expected over the interior because of persistent rainfall, meaning flooding is possible,” he said.
Severe thunderstorm warning issued
The province falls under a Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms, with heavy downpours and strong winds possible. While not extreme, these storms may disrupt travel and outdoor activities.
“We are still expecting up to a level 2 warning of severe thunderstorms tonight,” Rasimphi said.
With warm temperatures, high humidity, and ongoing rainfall, residents are advised to stay weather-aware.
