A swift operation by the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has resulted in the arrest of a wanted suspect and the confiscation of illegal drugs valued at approximately R17,000. The incident took place on Sunday, 19 October 2025.
The operation was initiated after the JMPD K9 Unit was called to assist the Tactical Response Unit (TRU) in locating the wanted individual at a property on Liverpool Street in Lenasia South.
Upon arrival, officers saw the suspect attempting to flee the premises by jumping over a back wall. The coordinated response of the JMPD K9 and TRU units quickly sealed off the area, leading to his immediate apprehension.
Following the arrest, a search of the suspect’s room, conducted with his permission, uncovered a haul of narcotics hidden inside a green cooler bag under the bed. The bag contained:
- Three plastic packets of tablets suspected to be Mandrax, estimated to be worth R7,000.
- A crystal-clear substance believed to be Crystal Meth, with a street value of R10,000.
- A small digital scale.
The suspect was immediately charged with Possession of Drugs. The JMPD has praised the vigilance and effective coordination between the two units, reiterating the department’s resolve to combat drug trafficking across the City of Johannesburg.
