Verushka Singh makes history at Mrs South Africa – here’s why

South Africa witnessed a milestone moment when Verushka Singh stepped into the spotlight as the new Mrs South Africa. But her win carries a deeper significance beyond the crown and the dazzling stage.

Her journey to the title signals a shift in representation and visibility within one of the country’s most celebrated pageants. As South Africans celebrated her crowning, many also recognised the historic first she brings to the platform.

First Indian South African woman to win Mrs South Africa

Verushka Singh’s crowning as Mrs South Africa on 14 November at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg marked a significant moment for the country’s pageant scene. She became the first Indian South African woman to take home the Mrs South Africa crown.

“I’m absolutely thrilled to be the new Mrs South Africa. I’m very excited for the reign and the opportunities it brings, and I think it’s going to be a transformative year for me,” she said after the win.

This year’s production embraced the theme, “The Greatest Show Woman,” a celebration of courage, individuality, and authenticity. Over 10-months, 28 finalists immersed themselves in leadership training, charity outreach, and personal development sessions designed to build confidence beyond the stage.

CEO Joani Johnson emphasised that Mrs South Africa is about empowering women to step into their voices, not just competing for a crown.

Singh embodied that vision effortlessly.

As a chemical engineer and climate change strategist by profession, she brings a grounded, thoughtful presence to the crown.

Singh’s background and mission

“I do want to promote sustainability, and that’s what I’m going to focus on,” Singh said.

Singh will highlight climate awareness, environmental responsibility and community empowerment, issues she has already been working on professionally.

Beyond her advocacy, Singh will represent South Africa at Mrs World. In January, Tshego Gaelae made history when she became the first black South African to win the title. Singh’s role also includes partnerships with brands, community initiatives, and mentorship programmes aimed at uplifting women nationwide.

Singh’s win at Mrs South Africa 2025 is a historic moment of empowerment and inspiration. As she takes on her year-long reign and prepares for Mrs World, Singh’s story reminds South Africans that pageants can be a force for change, celebrating identity, purpose, and representation.
