The University of the Free State (UFS) invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in the Department of Mathematical Statistics and Actuarial Science. This opportunity is ideal for candidates with a strong research interest in Bayesian modelling and mixed models, and who wish to pursue an academic or professional career in statistical research.

About the Postdoctoral Fellowship
The fellowship is awarded on a competitive basis, considering academic achievements, publication record, research potential, and prior relevant expertise. It is available for one year, renewable for up to three years based on satisfactory performance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct innovative research in Bayesian modelling.
- Author/co-author at least three (3) DHET-accredited scholarly publications per year.
- Submit annual progress reports for fellowship renewal.
- Initiate research projects and seek external funding.
- Reside at UFS as a full-time postdoctoral fellow and participate in departmental activities.
Eligibility Requirements
- Open to both South African and international applicants.
- Must have completed a PhD in a relevant discipline within the last five years.
- Fellowship is residential – successful candidates must spend at least 80% of their time at UFS.
- Applicants may not hold full-time salaried employment during the fellowship.
Fellowship Value
- R270,000 annual fellowship stipend.
- R30,000 additional research expenses fund.
