The celebrated singer, songwriter, and producer has been named a 2025 laureate of the prestigious Res Publica International Awards in Mondovì, Italy.
Tresor, who was born in the Democratic Republic of Congo and is now based in South Africa, was awarded the ‘Courage of Art’ prize.
The honour recognises his unwavering dedication to utilising music as a powerful tool for promoting unity and driving social change.
The Res Publica International Awards annually acknowledge individuals and organisations whose work champions peace, creativity, and civic courage.
The jury commended Tresor for his “artistic and courageous talent to guide public opinion in the struggle to end war and violence in Africa.”
Tresor’s personal journey—from fleeing his home country as a refugee to becoming one of the continent’s most influential musicians—serves as a powerful narrative of hope and resilience.
Reflecting on the award, Tresor expressed his gratitude, stating that the recognition is a reminder of his purpose: to use art to “shift the narrative of refugees and African youth to one that tells stories of resilience, beauty, and hope.”
