Mamelodi Sundowns are home to some of the biggest names in South African football.
With the plethora of talent on show at Chloorkop, it’s only natural for some players to struggle for playing time.
And such is the case for a newly signed Bafana Bafana star.
Mamelodi Sundowns star linked with loan move
Fawaaz Basadien joined the Brazilians at the beginning of the season in a high-profile transfer from Stellenbosch.
At the time, Basadien was a key player for Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana side.
His move to Mamelodi Sundowns however hasn’t gone according to plan. Basadien has made just three starts for Miguel Cardoso’s side this season.
In total, he has seven appearances to his name, four of which coming off the bench.
His lack of playing time has also affected his Bafana Bafana prospects, especially with the 2026 Fifa World Cup also looming.
Now, reports suggest Mamelodi Sundowns are looking at loaning the 28-year-old left-back out in January.
“Soccer Laduma understands that a loan move could also be considered when the January transfer window opens” the publication reported regarding Basadien.
Basadien should return to the Cape
A move that would make the most sense is a return to Stellenbosch FC.
With the Cape side struggling this season, Mamelodi Sundowns could do themselves, Basadien and Stellies a favour by getting a loan-deal done.
Basadien made over 100 appearances for the Cape side before moving to Chloorkop. He also played arguably the best football of his career under coach Steve Barker.
