The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced a safety recall affecting 58 Hino 700 Series trucks across South Africa. The recall, initiated by Toyota South Africa (Pty) Ltd, follows the discovery of a manufacturing defect that could lead to dangerous fuel leaks.
The affected vehicles were sold nationwide between 4 February 2025 and 9 November 2025.
According to technical data provided to the NCC, the issue stems from an “inappropriate surface treatment process” applied to the fuel pump housing during production. Experts warn that under conditions of repeated high-stress loads, the supply pump housing may develop structural cracks.
If left unaddressed, these cracks can result in fuel leakage, posing a potential fire hazard and environmental risk.
Toyota has confirmed that all remedial work will be performed free of charge. The NCC has urged owners of the 58 identified vehicles to prioritise this recall and contact their nearest authorised dealership immediately to schedule an inspection and repair.
“Owners are urged to take this recall seriously to ensure the continued safety of their vehicles and other road users,” the NCC stated in their official release.
