Top-selling car brand is launching a sleeker version of its flagship motor as first glimpse revealed

TOYOTA is poised to give its prestigious Century model a bold new look.

The renowned luxury car, long preferred by VIPs in Japan, is being reinvented as an exclusive coupe – in a departure from its famous four-door saloon form.

But according to Auto News, this special edition set of wheels will be produced in extremely limited numbers.

The Century, which is usually only available as a saloon or a limited SUV, is Toyota’s flagship, luxury car for the Japanese market – often likened to a Rolls-Royce.

But this coupe model, set to be unveiled at the Japan Mobility Show, has been described as “one of one,” which could mean it’s a simply a unique concept car – either built as a one-off for the show or possibly at the request of a specific customer.

Indeed, it’s unclear at this stage where it will enter production.

With proportions similar to a Rolls-Royce Spectre, its doors – judging by photos – will slide open for the driver’s side while also featuring power-folding steps.

No technical details, performance figures or interior information have been released – but it is unmistakably a Century with its imposing, premium looks.

The model is perhaps best known for its handcrafted luxury which represents the pinnacle of the Japanese brand’s craftsmanship.

Elegant with meticulous attention to detail and boasting quiet, powerful performance, its particular focus is on rear-passenger comfort.

This comes as the hugely iconic Toyota GR Yaris is returning to the UK market – after previously being unavailable.

Brit petrolheads have been able to buy a new version of the hot hatchback – widely considered one of the greatest hot hatches of them all – due to “exceptional demand” for roughly three years.

But Toyota has now reopened order books with the introduction of the Aero Performance variant.

The arrival of the new special edition model, which will only be sold in limited numbers, does come in place of the eight-speed automatic gearbox option – which has been discontinued.

Priced at £48,995 – £2,950 more than the standard GR Yaris – the car features a more aggressive design with enhancements aimed at improving aerodynamics and cooling.

These include a new chin spoiler to reduce lift, a larger vent on the bonnet for engine cooling, a flat floor to optimise airflow under the car and an adjustable roof-mounted spoiler at the rear.

And elsewhere, Skoda recently revealed a new concept design for the legendary 110 R coupe from the 1970s – complete with a retro-inspired yet modern coupe design.

An icon for motorsport fans and enthusiasts of classic cars, the 110 R – produced from 1970 to 1980 – was a sleek rear-engined coupe.

It famously laid the foundation for the Czech brand’s racing success of the 130 RS, which competed in rally events and the European Touring Car Championship.

Now, it’s been given a new lease of life courtesy of Skoda designer Richard Svec – who strived to create a car that appeals to young drivers who love motorsport but also desire an elegant coupe for everyday use.
