Four motorists spent Christmas Day in police custody following road traffic enforcement operations carried out by the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) in KwaZulu-Natal.
According to authorities, one of the motorists attempted to speed away after being instructed to stop by the RTI Park Rynie team.
The incident led to a dramatic high-speed chase, which eventually ended with the driver’s arrest.

Prevent loss of life
KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma praised the RTI officers for their actions, saying their intervention helped prevent potential loss of life.
“The RTI team is serving the nation selflessly. In particular, the rollout of the #NenzaniLaEzweni operation along the N2 in the early hours of the morning by RTI Park Rynie yielded excellent results, with innocent lives being saved,” Duma said.
The MEC revealed that the motorist who attempted to flee had obtained his driving licence approximately one month ago and has already been arrested for speeding.
Obey traffic laws
Authorities have reiterated calls for motorists to obey traffic laws, especially during the festive season when roads are busier and the risk of accidents is higher.
Law enforcement agencies say roadblocks and patrols will continue as part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety and reduce fatalities.
