‘There’s no pulse’: Police release 911 audios from the moments after Iryna Zarutska was killed

On August 22, police responded to 911 calls after Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska was killed by Decarlos Brown Jr. She had been journeying back home from her job at a local pizza joint when the career criminal attacked, stabbing her three times because Iryna was “reading” his mind.

“They just lashed out on her, that’s what happened,” Decarlos told his sister from jail, blaming the attack on “foreign” materials inserted into his body. “Whoever was working the materials they lashed out on her. That’s all there is to it. Now they really gotta investigate what my body was exposed to… Now they gotta do an investigation as to who was the motive behind what happened.”

Viral videos released by the Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) showed the attack in graphic detail, including some bystanders who rushed to Iryna’s aid afterwards. Police picked up Decarlos at the next bus stop, but nearly two months after the attack, local law enforcement have released the 911 audios.

Offering the 911 audios to Fox News, the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department seemingly recieved multiple calls about the attack on 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska.

“This man f**king stabbed her for no reason,” one panicked onlooker told dispatchers as “muffled sobs” were heard in the background.

Another lady, who may or may not have been on the bus, told 911: “This lady just got stabbed. … I’m not sure where we are. … There’s a tall building. There’s a lady on the ground. She’s bleeding a lot. I don’t think she’s responsive. There is a lot of blood.”

The same caller said that people were “freaking out” over the attack as she attempted to provide as much information as possible to the police.

“Everyone is screaming. People are freaking out. There are people around her right now. She looks young. … I don’t know. I don’t think she’s responsive right now. There’s a lot of blood,” she cried.

“I think she’s dead. She’s not responding. She was stabbed in the carotid [artery] I believe. There’s a lot of blood. There is no pulse. I think she’s gone.”

Another man confessed that “I think she might be dead” as he detailed the violent attack on Iryna Zarutska, who had fled Ukraine with her family following Russia’s invasion.

“Black male, dreadlocks, his hair wrapped up, a black T-shirt and blue jeans. His hand is wrapped up,” someone else said, describing Decarlos.

Decarlos Brown Jr has since been charged with first-degree murder, for which high-ranking officials are seeking the death penalty. In the affidavit obtained by Fox News, the FBI agent in charge of the investigation hoped the charge could bring some justice to Iryna’s grieving family.

“Iryna Zarutska had likely taken that train ride many times before. She was probably tired after a day at work and just wanted to go home, but tragically, she never made it,” he said. “We hope this federal charge will help bring her family a measure of justice, and the courts will hold the subject charged in this horrific act accountable. Everyone in this country deserves to go to work, to school or just across town without fear of being attacked.”
