The new £32million waterpark opening in one of Europe’s cheapest countries

ONE of the cheapest countries to visit in Europe is set to have a major new water attraction with pools, slides and adult-only spas.

Set to cost €37million (£32million), the Aquapark Transilvania Terme in Romania is set to open in 2028.

It will feature several pools and then also have hot tubs, water slides and relaxation areas[/caption]

Located in Tasnad, the new tourist attraction will have seven thermal pools as well as an outdoor pool and water slides.

A spa area will have a range of hot tubs, saunas, relaxation areas and wellness facilities, as well as VIP areas with private hot tubs.

Kids will be able to make the most of the child-friendly splash park, while there will also be restaurants on-site.

The thermal water that will be used will have ‘special therapeutic effects’, which have been certified by the National Institute of Recovery, Physical Medicine and Balneology in Bucharest.

The new attraction will be spread across 36,511sqm in total.

According to local media Bugetol, Tasnad City Hall has estimated that the new attraction will bring in over 210,000 more tourists each year.

Little else is known about the resort, including how much ticket prices will be.

But the town of Tasnad is also worth a visit as well.

Once part of Hungary until the end of the First World War, it officially became part of Romania in 1920.

Tourists can explore its history dating back to the early Neolithic period, as well as a Reformed Church and an Orthodox cathedral.

There are a number of affordable places to stay in the town too, including the three-star Hotel Alystra which has rooms for around £50 a night.

Or you can head to The Old Boys Pub, which one visitor said had “old school vintage vibes”.

Another added: “A very chic, 100 per cent retro pub in which the owner has invested a lot of time, money and passion.

Romania is known for being a cheap holiday destination, according to a report conducted by the Post Office.

Looking at a range of common items bought on holiday, it found coffees can cost little as £2.16 a cup and beer from £1.88.

A three-course meal for two people will set you back just £37.54 on average.

Getting to Romania is cheap.

Return fares to Cluj-Napoca – Romania’s second most-populated city – start from £27 from London or £34 from Leeds.

Alternatively, you could head to Bucharest from London for £30 return or for £36 return from Bristol Airport.

Or explore Sibiu, with return flights from Birmingham costing £32.

From October 28, Wizz Air will also fly directly from Birmingham to the Romanian city.

The flights will operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Saturdays and tickets start from £17.99.

A Sun reporter recently visited one Romanian city that has easyJet flights – here’s what he thought.

Plus, one woman also flew to Romania for a spa holiday with her mum and found it was cheaper than the UK even with return flights.
