Table Mountain: Cableway offers locals 96th birthday discount

The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company (TMACC) is celebrating a huge milestone in its history, and it’s giving locals and visitors alike an opportunity to commemorate the occasion with them.

Inaugurated on 4 October 1929, the cableway has enabled South Africans and tourists from around the world to travel up Table Mountain, undoubtedly one of Cape Town’s most famous landmarks.

Since then, more than 32 million people have visited the summit of the iconic mountain, which was also recently named one of the New 7 Wonders of Nature. Now, in honour of its 96th birthday, TMACC has shared a special gift for all South Africans to enjoy.

TABLE MOUNTAIN’S ‘LOCAL IS LEKKER’ DISCOUNT SPECIAL

As part of its 96th birthday celebrations, TMACC has launched its “Local is Lekker” special.

This special allows South African citizens to buy discounted return tickets, which are valid from now until 31 October 2025.

Adults can buy tickets at R250 each; for children aged between four and 17, it will cost R100 each.

“The ‘Local is Lekker’ special is our way of sharing the iconic New 7 Wonders of Nature with all South Africans and encouraging locals to be tourists in their own city before the summer rush begins,” said Wahida Parker, the managing director of TMACC.
