Two young men, aged 18 and 23, have been arrested in Eldorado Park after being caught in possession of a hijacked vehicle, which they were in the process of dismantling.
Gauteng police, working with local traffic officers and the Retract Tracking Company, apprehended the duo after a short chase. The suspects were also charged with kidnapping in connection with the incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest the men may be linked to a string of robberies targeting Uber and Bolt drivers.
The suspects reportedly book e-hailing trips before robbing the drivers of cash, mobile phones, and the vehicles themselves. Police are now working to establish the full extent of their criminal operation.
Authorities believe the suspects primarily operated in Eldorado Park Extensions 1, 2, and 4, which have now been designated as high-risk zones for such hijackings.
Law enforcement is urging e-hailing drivers to exercise extreme caution and consider avoiding these areas when accepting rides.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) has assured the public that efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend any further suspects involved in these crimes, reiterating their commitment to protecting e-hailing drivers across Gauteng.
