LIV Golf has announced that Stinger Golf Club has officially rebranded as Southern Guards GC, just months before the league hosts its first-ever event on African soil.

The rebrand signals a shift in identity for the all-South African team, placing a strong emphasis on culture, unity and resilience.

Inspired by the African philosophy of Ubuntu – ‘I am because we are’ – Southern Guards GC is built around the idea of collective strength, shared purpose and national pride.

Embedded in SA heritage

Central to the team’s refreshed visual identity is the rhino, a powerful symbol deeply embedded in South African heritage.

Representing strength, resolve and endurance, the rhino reflects both the team’s competitive toughness and its commitment to legacy.

The design incorporates South African textures and patterns, reinforcing the team’s connection to its roots while competing on the global LIV Golf stage.

The rebrand comes as anticipation builds for LIV Golf South Africa, scheduled to take place at Steyn City in Johannesburg from 19 to 22 March 2026.

The event has already generated significant interest, with more than 70 000 tickets sold, highlighting growing momentum for the league’s African debut and its host team.

Emotional and strategic

Southern Guards GC General Manager Richard Glover said the decision to rebrand was both emotional and strategic.

“This has been an emotional and considered decision, but we felt the time was right to embrace a name and visual identity that more authentically reflects who we are and where we come from,” Glover said.

“Southern Guards GC reflects the responsibility we carry in representing South Africa on a global stage. With LIV Golf coming to the country for the first time, the timing couldn’t be more fitting for us to represent our heritage with pride.”

Despite the change in name and branding, the team’s playing roster remains unchanged.

Southern Guards GC will continue into the 2026 season with its established all-South African line-up of Louis Oosthuizen, Branden Grace, Dean Burmester and Charl Schwartzel – four of the country’s most accomplished golfers, now competing under a refreshed banner in what is set to be a landmark season for South African golf.
