His pro partner Dianne Buswell insisted it wasn’t a ‘cover up’ for her being pregnant and unable to dance[/caption]
The news was announced on Friday evening, but within hours, some Strictly fans were speculating it was a cover up for his pregnant pro dance partner, Dianne Buswell.
However, the Aussie dancer soon hit back, and Stefan’s wife Gail has also spoke out in defence of the couple and the situation they have found themselves in.
Taking to Instagram, Gail revealed her husband had been rushed to hospital almost a year to the day, and that this was only the second time his health had impacted his work.
Gail shared a black and white snap of them together and wrote across it: “Get well soon darling, wish I was there to pamper you.”
In the caption she wrote: “A year ago, almost to the day, I got a frantic call from @neighbours , saying that Stefan was being rushed to emergency.
“Then this week … a frantic call came again. Thankfully he will be ok but I know he will be so sad and extremely disappointed that he can’t perform this week on @bbcstrictly…
“But believe me these two moments have been the only things that have kept him from going to work! He is such a super trouper.”
She then ended her post with a message for her husband, saying: “So please rest up darling, your body is shouting at you again. Make sure you listen!”
Stefan soon replied and showed that despite being poorly, he hadn’t lost his sense of humour, as he wrote: “I promise I’ll listen. There’s a first time for everything.”
Also on Saturday, Dianne – who is expecting her first child with partner Joe Sugg – spoke out amid claims Stefan’s illness was a cover up for her being unable to dance.
Dianne took to Instagram and penned: “Just to clarify as I have had lots of people msg me thinking this is a cover up for me being not able to dance!?
“Firstly we wouldn’t lie especially about somebody being sick!
“And secondly I am fine, yes I am pregnant but I’m also very capable and feeling really good!”
In the statement that was released on Friday evening, it was revealed doctors had ordered Stefan to rest.
