About the Programme
The SMH Diesel Mechanic Apprenticeship offers structured training and development under the supervision of qualified technicians, providing hands-on experience in maintaining and servicing diesel vehicles.
This programme equips learners with the essential skills, knowledge, and competencies required to become professional Diesel Technicians within Daimler Truck’s high-performance environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Maintenance Support
- Perform repairs and services as per DTSA (Daimler Truck Southern Africa) standards.
- Ensure all work is properly authorised and completed within prescribed flat-rate times.
- Carry out repairs accurately as per job cards.
- Seek technical guidance from supervisors when necessary.
Customer Service
- Ensure all customer vehicles and property are handled with utmost care.
- Maintain high customer service standards at all times.
- Inform the Foreman or Service Advisor of any delays or potential issues.
- Apply quality workmanship that meets DTSA standards.
Administration and Cost Control
- Complete job cards accurately and timeously.
- Record all materials, hours, and parts used.
- Adhere to warranty, maintenance, and fleet control standards.
- Submit all documentation immediately after job completion.
Housekeeping and SHE Compliance
- Use correct tools and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace at all times.
- Comply with all Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) regulations.
- Follow company policies and procedures diligently.
Self-Development
- Take responsibility for personal learning and skills growth.
- Comply with MERSETA apprenticeship agreements.
- Submit training assessments and portfolios promptly.
Minimum Requirements
- Must have a strong passion for diesel mechanics and commercial vehicles.
- Willingness to work full-time and commit to the apprenticeship duration.
- Good communication and technical aptitude.
- Strong sense of responsibility, safety awareness, and self-discipline.
