  • Six people were killed in a tragic collision between a minibus taxi and an SUV on the R540 in Dullstroom.
  • Eight others sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
  • Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution as investigations into the cause continue.

A horrific accident in Dullstroom on the R540 claimed six lives when a GWM Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) collided with a minibus taxi on Sunday afternoon, 26 October 2025.

Authorities have described the crash as a T-bone type of collision. All six passengers of the taxi tragically died at the scene.

Spokesperson for the Department of Community Safety, Security and Liaison in Mpumalanga, Moeti Mmusi, says the driver of the taxi was slightly injured.

“Eight people were seriously injured, and they include seven passengers and the driver of the SUV. The driver of the taxi was slightly injured. The injured are currently receiving treatment at a nearby hospital in Belfast,” said Mmusi.

The cause of the crash has not yet been identified and the matter is now under investigation.

“Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie, has reiterated a call to motorists to use the road with greater caution and heightened alertness to prevent deadly crashes. We remain deeply concerned by the number of fatalities caused by road crashes that could be avoided with more responsible driving. Motorists should always be mindful that their mistakes while driving could be devastating not only for them but for other road users,” Mmusi added.

He said it is unfortunate that, while the importance of safe transportation of goods and people is being highlighted during October Transport Month, people continue to lose their lives on the road.

“This needs to change, and motorists are an integral part of making the roads safer. The MEC is extending his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and also wishes those who were injured a speedy recovery,” he said.

This is the second fatal accident recorded in Mpumalanga over the weekend, following an Avanza crash on Saturday that claimed four lives.
