Seven-hour power outages planned for parts of Cape Town

Several areas in Cape Town will be affected by planned power outages in January as the City carries out essential maintenance on its power infrastructure.

According to the City of Cape Town, the scheduled power interruptions will take place on 27 and 29 January, with electricity supply expected to be off from 08:30 to approximately 16:00 on both days.

The outages form part of routine maintenance aimed at improving network reliability and preventing unplanned faults.

CAPE TOWN SCHEDULES SEVEN-HOUR POWER OUTAGES

Only specific suburbs will be impacted, and residents are encouraged to consult the City’s official outage maps to confirm whether their area is affected.

The metropolitan municipality has noted that power may be restored earlier than the advertised time if work is completed ahead of schedule.

Residents have been advised to switch off electrical appliances during the outage period to avoid damage from possible power surges when supply is reinstated. The City has also urged patience and cooperation, stressing that the maintenance is necessary to ensure a more stable electricity supply in the long term.

Notably, Cape Town frequently implements planned outages to maintain ageing infrastructure and reduce the risk of prolonged unplanned blackouts, particularly during periods of high electricity demand.
