SASSA REBUFFS CLAIMS OF SOCIAL GRANTS DOUBLE PAYMENT

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) is increasingly concerned about the recent misinformation that has gone viral in online communication platforms claiming that there will be double payments in social grants.

SASSA would like to categorically state that this is not true and the Agency urges all its beneficiaries and public at large not to entertain this information as there has been no announcement of social grants double payment by SASSA or government. It is for this reason that SASSA appeals to the public to be circumspect of the information they share on social media as it directly and adversely affects millions of vulnerable beneficiaries.

“We appeal to our beneficiaries to only rely on credible sources of information on our official social media pages. Before anyone can share any information pertaining to social grants, they must first verify its authenticity to avoid disseminating false information that may cause anxiety and stress to our beneficiaries”, says Paseka Letsatsi, the SASSA National Spokesperson.

Social grants are the livelihood of more than 19 million SASSA beneficiaries, when people create and disseminate false information, it creates untold panic and stress to the millions of our vulnerable beneficiaries. Therefore, we appeal to all South Africans to stop these acts and our beneficiaries to be vigilant and cautious at the information they consume.
