Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7: A work machine that comes alive at night…

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is the most unstuffy foldable device I have ever had the pleasure of playing with.

And this means a lot, because I received the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 thinking it would be a formal, stuffy and business device, more suitable for your preachy uncle and surly dad, than a 36-year-old festivalgoer.

Unfolded display changes everything on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7

Unfolding the Z Fold7 is where the magic truly happens, revealing an expansive inner display that serves as a productivity powerhouse. For those of us constantly chasing a deadline or reading at length on our phones, this screen justifies its existence. It is so effective for multitasking that it makes the need for a separate tablet fade into non-existence.

My first go-to when reviewing new Android devices is a stress test that many handsets fail – the sluggish and often temperamental WordPress app.

On the Galaxy Z Fold7, working within the WordPress app is seamless and fluid, meaning – as with the Samsung Galaxy S25 – I never had the urge to smash it while editing copy or uploading images.

And because the Z Fold7 is specifically designed for complex multitasking, I exploited the split-screen functionality to its maximum: have you ever followed proceedings at the Madlanga Commission on YouTube, while scrolling Instagram, while tracking your food delivery?

Camera prowess, battery power and design quirks

Now, let’s talk about the camera, because it’s simply phenomenal. The Samsung Z Fold7’s setup is in a league of its own; it is the first foldable phone with a 200MP camera, ensuring ultra-level clear pictures.

Usually, a phone this thin comes with the compromise of a smaller or less powerful camera. But there are no compromises with the Galaxy Z Fold7, and the excellent Nightography feature means you won’t struggle to take high-quality pictures after dark.

And a bonus? I converted an Apple head. While out for drinks and snapping away, I caught a fanatical iPhone-using friend drooling at the the clarity. That’s how good the camera is.

The handset itself is a marvel of engineering – sleek and surprisingly skinny even when folded. Performance is incredibly snappy, with a really good battery life: 28 hours on one charge.

Yet, the Z Fold7 does have its personality quirks that must be accepted. The incredible camera system comes with a significant lens protrusion, making the phone wobble unsightly when placed on a flat surface.

And while the finish is premium and feels luxurious, it might be too slick and slippery if you’re butterfingered like me, meaning that a case is an absolute necessity for this pricey piece of hardware. And a personal peeve – it has no S-Pen! The large, unfolded display is a canvas begging to be filled.

For the multitasker and the power user who needs an eye-catching device that genuinely does it all, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is an unmatched phone.
