Rising temperatures bring fire concerns in Gauteng

Gauteng is expected to experience a steady rise in temperatures, creating conditions that may increase the risk of wildfires. According to forecaster Mpho Rasimphi, the province is not exempt from the dangers.

“We are getting hotter conditions, which means that fires are possible over the country,” Rasimphi explained.

The warning comes at a time when much of South Africa is transitioning into an unpredictable summer climate pattern.

Rainfall patterns in Gauteng

Although rainfall is expected to improve in parts of the country, Gauteng’s outlook remains mixed.

“We are predicting above normal rainfall over the Northwest, Free State, and the Eastern Cape, but not all provinces will get that rainfall,” said Rasimphi.

Gauteng is likely to experience isolated showers, especially stretching into Mpumalanga and Limpopo. These patterns suggest that residents should remain cautious, as not all regions are expected to benefit from the rains.

Cooler nights, warm days

The weather forecaster further noted that Gauteng will face chilly evenings despite hot daytime conditions. Temperatures in cities like Pretoria are expected to range between 11°C at night and 26°C during the day.

Rasimphi highlighted the contrast, “It is going to be a cold night over most of the central parts of the country, but daytime conditions remain warm.”
