It has been established that revenge and a battle over territory are the reasons behind the mass shooting that claimed six lives in Reiger Park, Boksburg.
What is believed to have been a drive-by shooting has left the East Johannesburg community reeling from shock after the fatal incident that occurred on Saturday, 01 November 2025.
The community and families are still trying to come to terms with the deaths of their loved ones.
The victims, who include mothers, were shot dead by suspects believed to be part of a gang travelling in two vehicles.
Three others were injured in the attack, including a one-year-old child.
Kaya News spoke to some residents and the area councillor, Edith Klassen, who expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence in the area.
She told Kaya News on Monday that the shooting was not a random attack but part of an ongoing battle between gangs.
Klassen called for increased police visibility in the area, believing that this could make a difference.
“We have been promised formal vans, but who’s going to drive them if there’s no staff? So there’s a patch to this story. Either they look at giving us more police or find a solution. Yesterday, they mentioned that they will give us more police to look over our community once the training of new employees is concluded,” she said.
