Orlando Pirates reportedly received an offer from Chicago Fire to buy Oswin Appollis, but without success.
Having arrived in July from Polokwane City, the 24-year-old attacker made waves with four goals and six assists for the Sea Robbers.
NO MOVE TO CHICAGO FIRE FOR OSWIN APPOLLIS
According to Soccer Beat, Orlando Pirates turned down the offer to sell the Bafana Bafana star. This inspired Chicago Fire to pursue Puso Dithejane instead.
“Chicago Fire initially explored a move for Oswin Appollis, but Orlando Pirates were unwilling to sanction a sale,” the report said. “The MLS side subsequently shifted their focus to Puso Dithejane.”
MBEKEZELI MBOKAZI CAPTURE
As previously reported by The South African last November, Chicago signed the Buccaneers’ 20-year-old Mbokazi on a four-year deal that includes a one-year option to renew.
Chicago finished in eighth position with 53 points in the 2025 MLS season.
Mbokazi became the third South African player in the MLS. He joined Olwethu Makhanya (21), a left-footed central defender at Philadelphia Union, and Bongokuhle Hlongwane (25), a forward for Minnesota United. The same Minnesota reportedly offered R35 million in August for Mbokazi’s Pirates teammate Relebohile Mofokeng, only for the Buccaneers to turn it down.
ORLANDO PIRATES CHASING BETWAY PREMIERSHIP GLORY
Meanwhile, the Sea Robbers have got their 2025/26 season off to a flying start. After 12 Betway Premiership games, they sit top of the table with 28 points, thanks to nine wins, one draw, and just two losses, and they still have a game in hand.
Coach Abdeslam Ouaddou’s side have been solid at both ends, scoring 18 goals while conceding only five, leaving them with a +13 goal difference.
A six-game winning streak has strengthened their grip on the title race, keeping them ahead of rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
The Sea Robbers have already added silverware this season, lifting both the MTN8 and the Carling Knockout Cup.
