  • The DA picketed outside Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s office demanding accountability for the Tembisa Hospital looting scandal.
  • The party wants seized assets to be sold quickly so stolen funds can go back to patient care.
  • Lesufi’s office accepted the memorandum but offered no response.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng staged a picket outside Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s office on Thursday, calling for urgent action to hold those implicated in the Tembisa Hospital looting scandal accountable.

The party is demanding the swift recovery of the allegedly stolen billions and the speedy sale of seized assets so that funds can be redirected to improve conditions for patients.

Led by DA Gauteng Shadow MEC for Health, Dr Jack Bloom, the party emphasised that communities are still suffering the consequences of corruption.

Bloom argued that the provincial government is moving too slowly despite strong evidence gathered against alleged syndicate members, including businessman Hangwani Maumela, whose companies were flagged by slain whistle-blower Babita Deokaran.

“The people suffering without beds, medicine and proper facilities deserve to see their money returned, not locked up due to lengthy court processes,” Bloom said.

Lesufi’s office received and accepted the memorandum without comment.
