  • President Cyril Ramaphosa has been conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Malaya in Malaysia for his contributions to international relations and global development.
  • He is only the second South African, after Nelson Mandela, to receive this honour from the Malaysian university.
  • Ramaphosa stated the honour recognises the South African people’s struggle for democracy and freedom and the values the country promotes in global affairs.

President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa has been conferred an Honorary Doctorate by the prestigious University of Malaya in Malaysia.

The university granted the honour in recognition of President Ramaphosa’s exceptional leadership and contributions to international relations, as well as his dedication to global development and his expertise as a strategic leader and consultant.

This distinction is particularly noteworthy as President Ramaphosa is only the second South African to receive it, following the late former President Nelson Mandela.

Upon accepting the award, President Ramaphosa stated that the honour was a tribute to the South African people’s long struggle for democracy and freedom.

“This honour in the form of an Honorary Doctorate in International Relations is being conferred at a time of great turbulence and uncertainty in the world,” said Ramaphosa. He added that the award recognises “the principles and values that we have sought to advance in global affairs.”
