  • The Presidency says the final report of the Madlanga Commission will be made public once the inquiry is completed.
  • The interim report, however, will be submitted only to President Cyril Ramaphosa as further evidence and witness testimony is still outstanding.
  • Civil society group the Activists and Citizens Forum has criticised the move, accusing the President of lacking transparency.

The Presidency has clarified that the final report of the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry will be made public once the commission has completed its work.

This follows an announcement on Sunday that the interim report, expected to be submitted on Wednesday, will not be released to the public.

Presidency spokesperson Vincent Magwenya provided an update at the Union Buildings on Monday, saying the interim report will be submitted only to President Cyril Ramaphosa as more evidence is still to be heard.

Magwenya explained that several witnesses who have already appeared before the commission probing alleged interference in the police and judiciary will be recalled.

He added that the interim report is intended to brief the President on the progress made thus far, rather than present final findings.

Meanwhile, the Activists and Citizens Forum has criticised the decision, calling for greater transparency.

Spokesperson Dennis Bloom accused President Ramaphosa of using commissions of inquiry to conceal the truth from the public, claiming the process amounts to what he described as the President’s “dark room operations.”
