Donovan, 43, will be well remembered for his brief loan spells at Everton during his playing days.
The American was also recognisable for his receding hairline, which he has struggled with since his teens.
Earlier this week, he revealed how he had tried multiple hair transplants in order to boost his locks.
He has now made the decision to go for a WIG and shared an update with his followers.
He posted a video on X showing the process he went through for his new barnet.
The clip showed him having the top of his head shaved before having the wig glued on.
He wrote: “After years of trying different methods, I’ve finally tried a hairpiece.

At the end of the video, Donovan showed off his new lid and was visibly happy with the results.
Fans were thrilled for the former footballer as they flooded the comment section.
One posted: “Think it looks great.”
A second wrote: “The middle part where they shaved your head had me nervous for you. The final product looks great. Good for you! Years younger for sure.”

A third commented: “Huge respect.”
Donovan is considered as one of the best players to star in the MLS since its inception in 1996.
He had two loan spells at Everton while he was contracted to LA Galaxy.
The winger made 22 appearances for the Toffees in all competitions, scoring twice and assisting nine goals.
His first loan only ran for two months and his second lasted six weeks so he could return for the start of the MLS season.
The USA international also enjoyed spells in Germany as he turned out for Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern Munich in his career.
He hung up his boots for the last time in 2019, having won six MLS Cups with the Galaxy and San Jose Earthquakes.
