  • Police visited Brown Mokgotsi’s Mahikeng business as part of a probe into political interference in the justice system.
  • Mokgotsi has been implicated in the Madlanga Commission for allegedly using ANC ties to profit from criminal networks.
  • He has asked the commission for more time to respond and plans to appear before it personally.

Members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) paid Brown Mokgotsi’s business premises in Seweding village, Mahikeng, a visit on Thursday.

The visit forms part of an ongoing investigation into alleged political interference in the justice system.

National Police Spokesperson Athlenda Mathe confirmed the development in a short statement on Thursday.

The SAPS confirms that there is police presence at the business premises of Mr Brown Mogotsi in Seweding village in Mahikeng. This visit is part of an ongoing investigation that has already been discussed before the adhoc committee and the Madlanga commission.

Mokgotsi’s name has repeatedly surfaced at the Madlanga Commission, which is investigating allegations of criminality, political meddling, and corruption within the criminal justice system.

During the proceedings, SAPS Crime Intelligence head General Dumisani Khumalo revealed WhatsApp exchanges suggesting that Mokgotsi allegedly used his political ties to the ANC to solicit money from suspected criminal figures.

It was also claimed that alleged underworld kingpin Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala paid Mokgotsi hundreds of thousands of rand in exchange for protection and access to confidential SAPS documents.

Earlier this week, Mokgotsi wrote to the Commission requesting more time to respond to the allegations against him. This as a five-day deadline on Mogotsi’s Rule 3 notice expires this week.

He said he intends to appear in person and submit a written response, along with a formal application to testify before the inquiry.
