Police launch manhunt after officers fatally shot in Johannesburg

Police have launched a manhunt for two suspects who shot and killed two on-duty officers on Friday evening in Ivory Park, Johannesburg.

The victims were a Sergeant and a Constable stationed at Ivory Park police station.

They were conducting crime prevention duties in Ivory Park Extension 9 when unknown suspects opened fire.

The attackers fled with two police pistols, a SAPS rifle, and the officers’ cellphones.

Task Team Deployed to Find Suspects

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni has appointed a specialised task team to investigate the killings.

Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said the team includes experienced detectives and specialised units, who have been tasked with tracking the suspects and recovering the stolen firearms.

Maximum resources mobilised to help police with the manhunt

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola instructed Lieutenant General Mthombeni to take immediate action.

He ordered the deployment of maximum resources to capture the criminals who killed and disarmed the officers.

Police are appealing to the public for information.
