Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety Mgcini Tshwaku says police have identified a woman as a person of interest in the murder of Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras.
The woman is believed to be a former tenant at the Zambesi building in Johannesburg’s central business district, where DJ Warras was fatally shot.
Police have launched a manhunt for those responsible for the killing, which took place on Tuesday.
Five people have been taken in for questioning as investigations continue.
Working around the clock
Tshwaku said law enforcement officers are working around the clock to determine the circumstances surrounding the murder.
“There’s a woman who is cited as the kingpin and who also features in the protection order. She is a woman of interest,” Tshwaku said.
He added that DJ Warras had allegedly been receiving threats prior to his death.
“There’s a committee that has been threatening Warras, and some of them said that because he was trying to remove them, they would see him ‘in the bush’. That is why he had to obtain a protection order,” Tshwaku said.
No arrests have yet been made, and police have urged anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
The South African website on Wednesday reported that CCTV footage covering the shooting revealed that the shooter was a man with dreadlocks.
