It’s the season of sharing, and KAYA 959 went above and beyond to ensure that people from underprivileged communities and homes could enjoy a warmer, more dignified festive season.
On Monday, 1 December 2025, Drive 959 successfully hosted its first-ever Pledge and Plunge for Charity, broadcast live from Kaya House studios between 3pm and 6pm.
The initiative aimed to give back and make a tangible difference in the lives of those in need, raising close to R200 000 in donations.
Throughout the show, Glen Lewis, Skhumba and Kgomotso Meso bravely took on an icy plunge in support of orphanages and old-age homes, encouraging listeners to pledge donations to help strengthen these vital community organisations.
Within minutes of the broadcast, African Media Entertainment (AME) made the first major pledge of R10 000, followed by a generous R20 000 contribution from Japanese manufacturer Yamaha.
Several other organisations also joined the cause, including Kyalami Shisanyama and AA Bread Bakery.
The funds raised translated into real impact, giving children and families the opportunity to experience a brighter, more joyful Christmas.
Using the money raised, KAYA 959 purchased essential goods that were donated to four shelters catering for underprivileged women, children and men in Orange Farm, Yeoville, Tembisa and Northriding.
More than just a charity drive, the initiative served as a powerful reminder of the true spirit of Christmas, that giving comes in many forms. Whether through donations, volunteering at a soup kitchen, an orphanage, or the SPCA, every act of kindness, big or small, helps spread hope this festive season.
