People are arguing over if Shrek had this Lord Farquaad ‘deleted scene’ – or if we all made it up

There’s a viral debate right now on Twitter and it’s all to do with Shrek. As all good viral debates should be! If your gaff was anything like my gaff then you probably wore the Shrek DVD the hell out in the 2000s. I miss physical media for many reasons, mostly the TV menus because they’re a lost art – but also because you got so many fun bonus goodies. Who remembers Simon Cowell doing Far Far Away Idol on the Shrek 2 DVD? That was art. But right now, there’s a major debate on Twitter / X regarding a scene from Shrek that people think has been permanently deleted or that they’ve just fully invented in a Mandela effect crisis. But we’ve got answers.

It’s all Lord Farquaad’s fault

So it all kicked off as everyone nostalgically remembered a certain scene from Shrek and whether it was in it or not. The scene in question is one of Lord Farquaad inside the stomach of the dragon. He’s singing Stayin’ Alive to himself and lighting himself up in the gut with a little match.

However, if you sit and watch Shrek you will never get to see this scene. It isn’t on streaming and won’t be in any re-runs on TV. So what the heck happened?

You aren’t going crazy – it did exist

The scene was actually filmed – but the reason you don’t see it when watching Shrek these days on a streaming service is because it wasn’t ever in the main film. The Shrek DVD had a featurette titled Shrek in the Swamp Karaoke Party – and was a bonus bit of fun of all the cast partying and singing songs. It wasn’t in the main film – but because so many of us remember watching it on the DVD we feel like it SHOULD be there.

So if you ever want to relive the in the stomach glory days, you’ll likely have to dust off the Shrek DVD to find the scene that wasn’t deleted but was actually just bonus content. Or do what the rest of us do and just get on YouTube.
