City Power Johannesburg has scheduled an 8-hour planned power outage set to affect 13 suburbs.
The power utility mentioned that the power outage is necessary for maintenance work.
“The interruption is necessary to do maintenance work on our network, which is part of our programme of constantly striving to provide a better service,” mentioned City Power.
SUBURBS TO BE AFFECTED BY THE POWER OUTAGE
These are the suburbs that will be affected by the power outage on Wednesday, 1 October 2025, from 8:00 to 16:00 at Ontdekkers Substation:
- Carenvale
- Ontdekkers Park
- Discovery Ext. 6
- Honey Hill
- Ontdekkers Park Ext. 1
- Horison and Horison Ext. 1
At James Crescent Substation on Thursday, 2 October 2025, from 9:00 to 17:00, the power outage will affect these suburbs:
- James Crescent Road
- Part of Pretoria Road
- Part of Richards Drive
- Mondi Recycle
- Momentum Park
- Famous Brands
- Pro Build
As the supply points may be restored at any time, City Power encourages customers to always treat their electricity points as live.
KUSILE POWER STATION UNLOCKS 9600MW CAPACITY ACROSS EKSOM’S FLAGSHIP STATIONS
Kusile Power Station Unit 6 has officially entered commercial operation, completing Eskom’s Build Programme.
This milestone is part of the utility’s Generation Recovery Plan, which resulted in the end of South African power stations, Medupi and Kusile.
With Unit 6 now online, Kusile and Medupi can deliver a combined 9 600MW when operating at full capacity, strengthening South Africa’s electricity supply.
These two supercritical coal-fired power stations forms the backbone of the country’s baseload electricity supply.
Bheki Nxumalo, Eskom Group Executive for Generation, thanked the employees and contractors for their commitment in delivering this milestone.
“The successful commissioning of Unit 6 adds 800MW to the grid and completes our twelve-unit Megaprojects fleet. We extend our gratitude to employees and contractors for their commitment and perseverance in delivering this milestone.”
“Despite the many challenges along the way, the successful handover of Unit 6 reflects the team’s resilience and dedication,” Nxumalo said.
