Orlando Pirates are set to lose defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi to Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire imminently.
As per widespread reports, Mbokazi is already in the USA, with Pirates and Fire agreeing on a mammoth transfer fee.
Pirates set to cash in on Mbokazi transfer to Fire
It’s believed that Mbokazi will Pirates a whooping R51 million when he eventually completes his move to Fire. This would represent a significant profit on whatever nominal fee the Buccaneers would’ve paid Langalibalele Academy for the centre back. But as the 20-year-old prepares to leave the Sea Robber’s ship, that could open up space for one of their long-term targets.
Pirates have a long standing interest in Thabo Moloisane of Stellenbosch FC. Now according to Soccer-Laduma, they may move for his services when Mbokazi departs in January.
Moloisane lined up as replacement?
“According to sources close to the club, Pirates have not dropped their interest in Moloisane, who has been on their radar across different transfer windows. The 26-year-old has been one of the most consistent centre-backs in the Betway Premiership since joining the Cape Winelands outfit in 2023 and is also on Hugo Broos’s Bafana Bafana radar. With Mbokazi’s MLS move understood to be edging closer, Pirates may finally push to secure Moloisane’s signature as they plan for a potential leadership and defensive reshuffle heading into the next window.” Wrote the publication.
Stellies stumbling block?
There is no doubt that there would be money to make the move happen after Mbokazi leaves Pirates. There is also every chance that Moloisane would jump at the opportunity to join the Soweto giants too. But a potential stumbling block is Stellenbosch not wanting to let the player go.
Pirates fans, how do you feel about Mbokazi leaving for Fire? Would Moloisane be the right replacement for him? Feel free to leave your thoughts and feelings in the comments below.
