A girl, 4, was killed and several others seriously injured in a head-on collision in Pinetown, Durban.
According to ALS Paramedics, two vehicles collided in Richmond Road on Wednesday evening.
The emergency service said paramedics who responded to the scene found two people severely entrapped in one of the vehicles.
MODERATE TO SEVERE INJURIES
The responders including the eThekwini Fire Department and Redline Response Rescue, used the Jaws of Life and other hydraulic tools to remove them from the vehicle.
Occupants of one of the vehicles was a family of four, including two young girls aged about four and six.
The four-year-old succumbed to her injuries, while the remaining family members sustained serious injuries.
They were transported to nearby hospitals for further medical care.
The driver and only occupant of the second vehicle suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to hospital after receiving treatment at the scene.
Richmond Road was cordoned off during the rescue efforts.
ALS said police had taken over the scene and will be investigating the cause of the crash.
