Liam died in Argentina on October 16, 2024 after falling from his hotel balcony.

The 31-year-old singer was in Buenos Aires for former bandmate Niall Horan’s tour when he tragically plunged from the third floor.

Speaking on the podcast We Need To Talk with Paul C. Brunson, Lou said of Liam: “I do wish that I’d kept in touch with him more because he would always reach out and try to chat.

“He always always quite lost and everyone always worried about him.

“He was an empathetic person. If he was ever reaching out to me it was about my family or my relationship and how I was on a deeper level.

“After the past few years of his career, I’m not surprised he was struggling.

“Again, people would say ‘who’s looking after him?’

“His friends, his girlfriend, his parents and a whole load of people not qualified to look after mental health.

“There’s probably not many people who are because they don’t really exist. Any sort of structure with that doesn’t really exist.”

Liam is survived by his son Bear, who he welcomed with singer Cheryl Tweedy in March 2017, after they had been dating for a year.

He shot to fame as a member of the global boyband phenomenon One Direction.

Liam made his debut as a singer when he auditioned for The X Factor in 2008.

After being eliminated as a solo artist he auditioned again in 2010 and was put into a group with four other contestants to form One Direction.

The band went on to sell 70 million records worldwide, making them one of the most successful boybands of all time.
