Old Trafford pays tribute to victims of Manchester synagogue attack

Before kick-off against Sunderland on Saturday 4th October, Manchester United players and their opponents locked arms around the centre circle as the stadium went silent.

The team wore black armbands reading “#ACITYUNITED”.

The tribute comes after Adrian Daulby, 53, and Melvin Cravitz, 66, were killed in the attack outside Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation in North Manchester on Thursday 2nd October. Police say the attack injured four others, three of whom remain in hospital.

The day after the attack, Manchester United’s women’s team also held a silence prior to their match against Chelsea.

United’s U21 and U18 clubs also wore black armbands over the weekend.

Manchester City continued the tribute during their fixture against Brentford on the Sunday. Joining them were various local clubs, including Salford City.

Prior to this tribute, Brentford had planned a minute’s applause for their head of academy goalkeeping, Christopher Ramsey, who died earlier in the week. The club agreed to change that tribute to a minute’s silence considering the attack.

Speaking before Saturday’s match, Manchester United’s head coach Ruben Amorim said:

“It is a crazy world we are living in at the moment, a lot of these things are happening.

“Of course, our sympathies for the victims and we will pay tribute tomorrow, but it is a crazy world in this moment.”
